America’s favorite season is here – like never before. Longer sun-filled days have arrived. Let’s take notice.

This summer we hope you find time to enjoy and restore.

In this 12th issue of The Sunday Series, we share our Top Ten list for Summer 2020, activities for home or if you venture away. With all 50 states beginning to reopen, we also share updates from our hospitality friends around the country.

Summer Experience

Historically, summers at 5th Street East are a wonderful mix of work and play. From May to September, we find ourselves collaborating on productions and shoots in some of the world’s most beautiful places.

Fresh Look

This summer, we are taking a fresh look at how to restore. We’ve created a Top Ten list of activities to do at home or away, with images and video from some of our favorite productions.

We hope these visuals inspire you to make the most of this leisure season.

We are also truly delighted to celebrate our hospitality partners around the country. Whether open or reopening, we dedicate this issue to all the many people who work in an industry we cherish: hospitality.

Activities for at home or if you venture away

1. Soak up some rays 

Vintage House is opening June 1. Set on 22 acres in Yountville, the heart of Napa Valley, this luxury boutique hotel offers the perfect gateway to your vineyard experience. (And who doesn’t need wine at this point – we say, bring it!)

2. Walk in a park

The Four Seasons Hotel Boston looks forward to welcoming guests back in June. Facing Boston’s famed Public Garden, this luxury property is the most awarded Five-Star Hotel in New England.

3. Swim in a lake

Hotel Saranac, in Saranac Lake, New York opens their doors to summer travelers on June 15. Set in The Adirondacks, America’s playground, and built in 1927, the hotel was extensively renovated in 2018 and is a member of the Historic Hotels of America.

4. Picnic for two with plenty of rosé

Sister property to Vintage House, Hotel Villagio in Yountville is opening July 1. Offering the very best in Napa luxury, Hotel Villagio’s bespoke guest rooms and suites set the standard for America’s wine country experience. Plus, their on-property vineyard is the perfect setting for a picnic. (Rosé always available.)

5. Sleep in Sundays – or any day this summer

6. Explore the neighborhood

The Four Seasons Hotel Chicago welcomes guests on July 6. Rising above Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, the luxury hotel offers sweeping views of Lake Michigan and is steps away from the city’s Gold Coast historic district.

7. Get lost in the woods

The Duniway Hotellocated in downtown Portland, Oregon is open. Portland, the green city, is surrounded by more than 152 miles of completed regional trails. The perfect place to get away and explore.

8. Head out to sea

The Annapolis Waterfront Hotel is open and is the only hotel directly on Annapolis Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay. The hotel is within walking district to the historic town of Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy.

9. Bike along a bay

Known as the Queen of Southern Resorts, The Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, in Point Clear, Alabama on Mobile Bay is open. The resort offers a 36 hole championship golf course, tennis courts and restaurants. Not to miss: sunsets and shorebirds on Mobile Bay.

10. Climb a tree

There’s something about climbing a tree – this one on Jekyll Island’s magnificent Driftwood Beach – that recalls the very best of summertime. Embrace your inner child and go climb a tree.
